First launch on macOS and Windows
What to expect the first time you open Trading Konsole, why Windows may still ask for a confirmation, the exact clicks, and how to check the file you downloaded.
macOS: the installers are signed with our Apple Developer ID and notarized by Apple. Drag Trading Konsole into Applications and open it: no warning, it starts like any other app.
Windows: the installers are code-signed with a certificate issued to H2Code through Microsoft’s identity validation. Windows can still show a SmartScreen prompt for a while: a young certificate has no reputation yet, and reputation only comes with installs over time. The prompt does not mean the file is dangerous; two clicks get you through it, below.
Two rules keep you safe: download only from the official download page, and, if you want to be sure, compare the fingerprint of your file with the one we publish (last section).
macOS
- Open the downloaded disk image and drag Trading Konsole into Applications. Eject the disk image.
- Open Trading Konsole from Applications. It opens directly: the app is signed and notarized.
If macOS ever shows Apple could not verify “Trading Konsole” is free of malware, you are holding a build that is not ours or a very old beta: delete it and download again from the download page. Should you still need to open such a build, the way is System Settings → Privacy & Security → Open Anyway, then Open.
Windows
- Run the downloaded installer, the
setup.exeor the.msi. - If Microsoft Edge marks the download as not commonly downloaded: open the downloads panel, click the three dots next to the file, choose Keep, then Show more and Keep anyway. Chrome shows a similar Keep.
- When SmartScreen shows Windows protected your PC, click More info and then Run anyway.
- In the User Account Control prompt, publisher Unknown, choose Yes. The installer then runs like any other.
Check the file you downloaded (optional)
Every release lists a SHA-256 fingerprint for each installer, in the
SHA256SUMS files on the release page linked from the download page. Compute
the fingerprint of your file and compare:
- macOS, in Terminal:
shasum -a 256 ~/Downloads/<file name> - Windows, in PowerShell:
Get-FileHash <file name> -Algorithm SHA256
If the two fingerprints match, the file is the one we published. If they do not, delete it and download again from the download page.
The SmartScreen prompt fades with time
The prompt is about reputation, not about the signature: as installs accumulate, Windows stops asking. Nothing changes for you meanwhile: the app updates itself, and each update installs like any other.
